Most importantly before you market and prior to the magazine printing is that you have a clear and concise understanding of your business model or “who your reader is”.
You cannot be all things to all people, but you can be the best there is for some, so focus your magazine printing goals.
Firstly in today’s information tech environment your “base of operations” for all of your marketing is your website. I am not suggesting that you need to have a digital edition, but a company website that can speak to the benefits of your magazine to readers and potential advertisers as well as having some of the content of the issue (or the entire issue or back issues as you deem appropriate).
In addition to being relevant to the customer your site should contain several forms of contact info, where to purchase your current magazine issue and who your distribution chain is if any. As your web should also serve the purpose of attracting new subscribers and advertisers for your magazine you will hope to have it rank high in Google. A clean and simply constructed, well organized site in HTML and ideally with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Your copy should be written to extol the benefits of your magazine and have a “call to action” with possibly some special offers for the purchaser/advertiser.
Blogging is your greatest tool in order to get the word out and talk about things in almost real time or real time if you blog daily but that is not an easy thing to do daily. A couple of times of week are ideal to strive for. Your blog with links to your web not only can promote your magazine and its content but also by linking to your web and with your resultant Google “author ranking” promote your web as well.
Social Networking is the modern day equivalent of the “Town Crier” and adds to your “author rank” with Google. It allows you to not only market and promote your website, blog and magazine but also do it on a “real time basis”. “All the news that’s fit to print” becomes “all the news that’s fit to print immediately”.
Not every social networking site may be of value to the business model for your magazine and you may choose to work hardest by marketing on those the most that fit your magazine’s demographics or niche.

- Google Plus
- American Express Open
Any blog you write can be posted with a back link to the blog on the sites as well as regular commentary about your magazine printing. All should have back links to your web. Some will even allow you to post an RSS feed so you can syndicate your blogs via those sites.
